Twitter Tips I've sent as Tweets - plus commentary

As I spend more time on Twitter - too much time? - I've shared some insights as Tweets as they appeared. Here are a few of my recent original Tweets, plus commentary.

To get better connected on Twitter keep Following list at 2x Followers and check all new Followers to see if they are worth following.

I check my Twitter stats here: http://twitter.grader.com/history/lpgeffen
What I see on the graph of Following vs Followers is a consistent 2:1 ratio. As I add people to my Following list, I seem to get about half as many new followers as I've added. I've now turned this into a goal. When my Following list drops below twice the size of my Followers list, I go look for more people to follow.

I want the list of people that I follow on Twitter to have real value and to be a guide to the best. I check for spammers every day.

One of my goals on Twitter is to create a great incoming stream for myself. I want to follow the best and most creative people so that I can learn from them. There are many ways to do this. One is to watch the retweets on my stream and see who the original tweeters are. If the tweet was worth repeating, the creator is probably worth following directly.

The "spammers" comment is more about my Followers list, but once in a while I do Unfollow someone.

Many of the people I follow on Twitter found me before I found them. I don't have time to thank all of them - so here's group hug for you!

I check my Followers list every day and check out the people who have decided to follow me. Many of them are worth following, so I follow back. Some are neutral, and the rest get reported for spam.

I get many new followers and I don't take the time to thank them all. I'm ambivalent about this - some people do go out of their way to thank new followers. When I follow someone back, that's thanks.

Am so much more productive now that I am not afraid to be ridiculous. The audience is big and reactions are a spectrum - make it wide!

Twitter allows me to share from all sides of my personality. I don't try to control the total impression that I make - that's for the reader to decide. I just give them as much data as I can and let them to the rest. It works!
